In FY2026, Vedanta posted its strongest-ever financial results. Revenue touched nearly US$20 billion, up 15% year-on-year, while EBITDA rose 29% to approximately US$6.3 billion. Operational performance was equally robust, with record outputs across its portfolio: aluminium production at 2.46 million tonnes, alumina at 2.9 million tonnes, and mined metal production at Hindustan Zinc at 1.1 million tonnes.
Beyond traditional metals, Vedanta is deepening its role in India’s critical minerals ecosystem. The company is actively exploring and developing assets in copper, nickel, cobalt, chromium, vanadium, tungsten, manganese, graphite, rare earth elements and platinum group elements - all minerals central to EVs, renewables, and high-tech manufacturing.
Vedanta’s economic footprint remains significant. In FY26 alone, it contributed ₹62,722 crore to the government exchequer through taxes, royalties, duties and other statutory payments. gave it one of the largest lithium portfolios anywhere, spanning Australia,
Argentina, Canada and the US.
Target- 200,000 tonnes per annum
by 2028. Rio is also extracting gallium from its Quebec refinery aiming to
produce up to 40 tonnes annually, or 5–10% of current global supply. Gallium

3. BHP Group Copper First, Always
BHP Group is a major copper
producer. It runs Escondida in Chile, the world’s biggest copper mine. In 2024,
Escondida produced 1.125 million tonnes of copper, 7% more than the year
before. For FY2025, BHP expects total copper production of 1.845 to 2.045
million tonnes. BHP is also developing the Jansen potash project in Canada,
planned to produce 4.35 million tonnes each year. Copper helps power clean
energy, while potash supports farming. BHP is helping supply both energy and
food.
4. Albemarle Riding the Lithium Cycle
Albemarle had a rough ride through
2024 as lithium prices fell sharply. But it didn’t sit still. The company cut
costs by over US$150 million in Q2 alone about 50% above its own target. Energy
Storage volumes grew 16% year-on-year in Q3 2024. Its La Negra expansion in
Chile and Australian processing assets are ramping up, timed for the next
demand wave. Among the top critical mineral companies in the world,
Albemarle is perhaps the clearest bet on the long-term lithium supercycle.
5. MP Materials Rare Earths, Made in America
MP Materials wants to make rare earth
materials in the United States, instead of relying so much on China. The
company runs the Mountain Pass mine in California, the only large rare earth
mine in the country. In Q3 2024, it produced 13,742 metric tonnes of rare earth
oxide, 28% more than last year. Its NdPr production, used in magnets for
electric cars and wind turbines, also grew strongly. MP has now started making
metal at its Fort Worth, Texas plant. Its goal is simple- build a full American
supply chain from mine to magnet.
6. Glencore The Cobalt King
Glencore is one of the leading global critical mineral companies. It is the world’s largest cobalt producer and runs major cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo, including Mutanda and Katanga. These sites produce a lot of cobalt used in batteries. Glencore mines, processes and trades minerals, giving it strong control over the supply chain. It has also invested in battery recycling through Li-Cycle to support reuse and cleaner supply.
